The central government is contemplating forming a water tariff regulatory body on the lines of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, according to a top official of the Ministry of Urban Development.
The regulatory framework has not yet been laid down. The ministry is currently in the process of framing various guidelines to ensure planned growth in the water sector, facilitate private sector participation and improve productivity and delivery, besides addressing the cost factors. The guidelines would be ready in a couple of months, said Urban Development Secretary M Ramachandran.
