The central government has approved projects worth Rs 8,484 crore for upgradation of power transmission and distribution system across states under the Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (APDRP) during the first two quarters of 2002-03.
Bulk of the investment will be made in Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
These four states put together account for 43 per cent of the amount sanctioned in two phases.

The ministry had approved projects worth Rs 4,500 crore by July. An additional Rs 3,984 crore was approved by September for system upgradation in 63 selected circles.
The approval of funding is based on the detailed project reports for identified circles by states.
