The Centre proposes to take state governments on board for the integration of Aadhaar with registration of various documents across the country. This is a part of the Centre’s move to promote citizen-centric services. State governments will make their presentations in this regard to the Centre at a conclave organised on Monday.
Already, the Delhi government has decided to make Aadhaar mandatory for the registration of marriage and property. The Jharkhand government has made Aadhaar mandatory for registration of land and marriage. In Jharkhand, both the buyer and seller are required to present their Aadhaar card while registering a property.
In Maharashtra, online registration for new flat purchases has made the Aadhaar card mandatory for both the buyer and seller under the scheme since August last year. A senior government official told Business Standard: “Buyers do not need to engage an agent to expedite the registration. Use of Aadhaar card for registration for leave and licence agreements has been introduced in the state.”
Unique Identification Authority of India’s deputy director-general Ajay Bhushan Pandey said Aadhar would help eliminate bogus, fake and duplicate beneficiaries. “This makes the process efficient and help the government departments in efficient service delivery directly to the people,” he opined.
Welcoming the Centre’s move, the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India’s national chairman Lalit Kumar Jain said registration would now be easy.
