In order to assist the SMEs in extracting the latent value of their Intellectual Property (IP) and using it effectively in their business strategy, The Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre (IPFC) being set up by Ministry of MSMEs, Government of India at Chandigarh will conduct a pilot study on IPR needs of ‘ Sanitary and bathroom fittings’ cluster at Mohali(Punjab). Based on the study and compiling the feedback it may conduct training and sensitization programmes for the Industries/cluster to create better understanding on various aspects and potential of IPR.

Speaking to Business Standard, Senior Scientific Officer & Incharge IPFC, Gurharminder Singh said, “ Under the proposed study, we will initially take the inputs from the Sanitary and bathroom fittings’ cluster in the form of questionnaire. The study will also cover where they are lacking and how to commercialize their innovation. Then we will compile the data about their requirements and the sectors in which they need sensitization. We would impart training to them in the field of patent, marketing, trademark or design, depending upon their need. Based on the study we will also assist them in filing IPR’s.” The study will be submitted to Ministry of MSME, Government of India.

Setting the benchmark and source of inspiration for others, it is worth mentioning that already Mohali-based Jupiter Aqua Lines, manufacturer of bathroom fittings and sanitary wares has registered its foot operated valve design usually meant for handicap persons.
