CEPT sets up Faculty of Environment & Climate Change Studies

The Centre for Environment Planning and Technology (CEPT) University has taken the lead to establish the Faculty of Environment & Climate Change Studies ( FECCS). The department will build the human resource for climate change risk management through two courses: Masters in Climate Change & Sustainable Development (2 year programme) and Post Graduate Diploma in Climate Change & Sustainable Development (1 year programme).

Apart from the courses, FECCS will include training and capacity building exercises, a Climate Change Adaptation Resource Centre which will undertake research and act as a clearinghouse of climate change information and Climate Change Network for academician, researchers and professionals.

National and International collaborations are being drawn up at the FECCS in form of inviting eminent resource person from India and abroad, networking with stakeholders, civil society institutions and people's organisations and developing research links with institutions of similar research interests, a faculty at CEPT said.

The academic programmes focus on issues pertaining to climate change, environmental problems and human settlements. While the Postgraduate Diploma is a one-year programme comprising of two semesters and a research paper, the Master's programme is divided into four semesters each focussing on different aspects of climate change and human settlements.

The programmes aims to draw participants from a multidisciplinary background such as engineering, architecture, planning, geography, economics, sociology, law, environmental science, physics, atmospheric sciences and MBA. The participants will have potential career opportunities in sectors such as urban and local bodies, banks and other finance institutes, to name a few.
