The legal advisor of former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu's son Chandan Basu today said his client had not flouted any rules. |
Addressing a press conference, NG Khaitan said, the car was hired by Om Udyog Ltd, where Basu was the managing director. The car was hired for three years in September 2004 and the owner of the car was VK Tours & Transport. |
Khaitan pointed out that the car was imported into India in 2000 by VK Tours & Transport and according to the Toyota certificate the valuation was at 24,450 pounds. Khaitan said, the car was not hired by Basu in his personal capacity but by Om Udyog Ltd, a real estate company for business purposes. |
The car was hired for a rent of Rs 48,000 per month. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had issued a notification on September 2 that the car be confiscated, on grounds of tax evasion. |
Khaitan said, the company would revoke the hire purchase agreement and had already given an undertaking that the car would not be moved. |
