The committee is of the view that landing, parking and other such airport charges can be rationalised. Such a move will reduce the operating costs of the airline -- a saving that can then be passed on to the consumer.
According to sources close to the committee, the panel might recommend either doing away with passenger service fee or, if that is not possible, at least reduce it.
Airlines charge Rs 200 a ticket as passenger service fee, which is levied for airport services.
The committee is also likely to ask the Airports Authority of India to consider rationalising the airport charges, which are one of the highest in the region. Airport charges account for nearly 6-10 per cent of the operating cost of airlines and savings from a cut here can directly be passed on to customers.
