The famous Charbagh railway station in Lucknow will soon get a makeover as a high-class railway terminal.

Indian Railways will spend Rs 10 crore for the purpose, MoS for railways K H Muniyappa said at a news conference here.

Charbagh is the main railway station in Lucknow and is the touch/origination point of several important trains, including Lucknow Mail, Gomti Express, Pushpak Mail, Punjab Mail, Cochin Express, Rapti Sagar Express, Doon Express, Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express. However, due to increasing commuter pressure and rising number of trains, the terminal is virtually bursting at the seams and requires immediate attention.

Railways had undertaken several projects worth almost Rs 1,300 crore in Uttar Pradesh.

The ongoing projects include laying of additional rail roads and electrification on several routes, and development of terminals.“The Lucknow-Sultanpur route is being electrified at a cost of Rs 330 crore,” he informed. The railways will lay a 3rd line between Aligarh-Ghaziabad for Rs 400 crore.
