A moderate 60 to 65 per cent polling was recorded today in the second and final phase of urban body elections in Chhattisgarh where elections were held for 154 civic bodies. In the first phase of election on December 21, 75.4 per cent electorates exercised their franchise. 101 bodies including 14 municipal councils and 87 nagar panchayats went to polls in the first phase.
Polling for 53 urban bodies including 12 municipal councils, 32 nagar panchayats and nine municipal corporations started this morning. Barring stray incidents, polling went off peacefully. In Barsur nagar panchayat body, the worst insurgency-hit centre in Dantewada district, about 77 per cent polling was reported. The counting of votes will take place on December 27.
