Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh termed the General Budget as “disappointing”.

“The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government has given preference to protect the political interests rather than save-guarding the appeal of poor people of the country,” Dr Singh said.

The Union government had totally ignored the backward states like Chhattisgarh in the Budget. The state had expectations that the Union Finance Minister would address the issues it had raised, Singh said, adding that there was no reference of it in the Budget.

“The state government had written a letter to the Finance Minister urging to increase the number of work days of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) from 100 to150 in the tribal areas,” Dr Singh said. But the UPA government ignored the interests of the tribal people, he added.

The Congress party had its popular slogan of “Congress’ hands with poor people”. The General Budget had made it clear that Congress’ hands are in poor people’s pocket, Dr Singh added.
