Chhattisgarh government will build 4000 km roads this year to improve the road infrastructure in the state.
“Lack of proper infrastructure is one of the major reasons for poor development in the state and the state government has given top priority to build roads in the state,” Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh said while addressing the people at the police parade ground on the occasion of 63rd
Independence Day yesterday. Last year, 7358 km roads were built in the state with 76 bridges. This year, the state government had set a target to construct 4000 km roads in the state. The work for the construction of 224 major bridges in the state was in progress, Dr Singh added.
Pointing out that Naxalism was one of the major fallouts of disparity in the infrastructure development in the states reeling under the problem, the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister said his government was committed to end the menace in the state. Dr Singh said the Naxal problem was emerging as a big threat to the sovereignty and internal security of the country. “The anti-development and anti-people face of the Naxalites had exposed and they had established their control in the interior areas by unleashing terror,” Dr Singh added.
However, the Chhattisgarh government is giving top priority to the socio-economic development in the interior areas besides protecting the lives of people in the insurgency-hit pockets.
