Chhattisgarh government’s initiative to empower women has starting showing the results---more than 40,000 women have become landlord in the state.
As part of the initiative, the state government had announced to exempt one per cent stamp duty if the land and property was registered in the name of woman member in the family. A per cent less in the stamp duty of land registration can safe a huge amount.
Following the incentive, the property buyers prefer to register the land or house in the name of woman member in the family. “As on December 31, 2012, 40309 land registrations have been executed in the name of women in the state in the current financial year,” a government spokesperson said.
In all, stamp duty worth Rs 22.21 crore had been exempted on the land registrations made in the name of woman members, the spokesperson added. The Raipur district however ranks first in availing the exemption given by the government as part of strengthening the power of woman in the family.
The spokesperson said 7103 women in Raipur district had purchased property in their name; availing an exemption of Rs 7.57 crore. The Balod district had been last on the list with 937 women buying land or house in their name and saving Rs 28.59 lakh.
