The main Opposition party, Congress, today stalled the proceedings of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly on the first day of the monsoon session on the issue of Madanwada Naxalite attacks that killed 36 policemen including Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar Choubey on July 12.
As the opposition members created pandemonium and did not allow the business to conduct, Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik adjourned the House for the day. The ten-day monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh Assembly started today.
Soon after the House reassembled after obituary references this morning, Congress members raised the issue of Naxal attacks in Madanwada and charged that the government’s failure resulted in the biggest casualty of policemen including the district police chief of Rajnandgaon.
The members demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Raman Singh. The Opposition members started displaying placards that demonstrated slogans demanding Singh’s resignation and anti-government slogans.
Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik objected to the Opposition members show and pointed out that display of placards was against the established norms and dignity of the House. But the Congress members continued with their demonstration, forcing Kaushik to adjourn the House for five minutes.
When the House re-assembled, Chief Minister Raman Singh announced in the House that the government was ready for the discussion. The Leader of Opposition, Ravindra Choubey, however, refused to participate in any discussion even as the opposition members continued with the uproar.
