Having faced worst-ever power crises in last many days, Chhattisgarh is now power surplus by about 100-Mw with units of state-run power generation company restoring normal production.
The two units of Korba-based Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company (CSPGC) were shut down for annual maintenance. With Korba station of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plunging into crises with shut down in its unit, Chhattisgarh plunged into severe power crises.
The state was getting power from the Korba station of the NTPC. For the last one month, state was facing severe power crises. Though the authorities were purchasing power from private sector, the high price prevented them to purchase power to meet the entire demand.
“The state has now overcome from the crises and it is now having surplus power,” Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company (CSPDC) Managing Director Subodh Kumar Singh said. The company is now supplying uninterrupted power 24 hours to the industries and farmers in the state, he added. The company officials said that the power demand in the state at present was about 2500-Mw. The state was now producing a little more than 2600-Mw. The state is also providing power to Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, the officials added. The development had come as a big respite for the power company officials as they now felt that the festival of lights would pass off without any crises. The officials said the state was now in a position to meet the additional demand that would come up during Diwali.
