Chhatttisgarh government is mooting a proposal to complete the construction work of Prime Minister's Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) roads in the Naxal-infested zone under the cover of security forces.
The district collectors in Bastar have been asked to prepare a plan to this effect and explore possibilities of completing road construction works with the help of security personnel, Chhattisgarh's Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ramvichar Netam told Business Standard. The matter would be taken up at the state level for better coordination between the construction agencies and security forces, Netam said. According to the minister, road projects worth about Rs 300 crore had been halted in the interior areas of Bastar region due to Naxal terror. The state government has decided to divide these projects in three categories. It include the areas where construction works can be taken up easily, where the Naxals have their sway but the agencies can work in the area and the third one is the pocket where rebels have considerable influence and no chance for any agency to work.
"We will concentrate on the first two categories and start the projects where the agencies can work under the cover of security forces," Netam said.
