To regulate the growth of Chhattisgarh's capital in a systematic way, the state government has decided to develop eight suburbs on the outskirts of Raipur city.

The plan will be a replica of the suburbs developed in Mumbai. The eight proposed suburbs will come up on 13,465 acres.

"The proposal has been mooted for the systematic development of Raipur which at a fast pace," Amit Katariya, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Raipur Development Authority (RDA), said.

RDA will be the agency to execute the project. The suburbs will be developed and divided into sectors. The project will ease population pressure in the existing city.

The project was necessitated due to mushrooming of unauthorised colonies on the outskirts of Raipur. Most of these colonies lack the basic amenities.

After the formation of Chhattisgarh in November 2000, private builders purchased agriculture lands which were later developed as colonies.

Officials said that the eight suburbs would be the model of satellite townships. Like Raipur, these suburbs will have all the facilities such as shopping malls, schools, hospitals, gardens and other amenities, the officials said.

The suburb to be developed in Deopuri-Amlidih-Fundahar-Dumatarai sector will be the biggest as it will come up on 2300 acres.

The other seven suburbs are Tatibandh-Raipura-Sarona (1500 acres), Changorabhata-Bhatagaon-Mathpurena (1900 acres), Boriyakhurd-Dunda (2000 acres), Tikrapara-Dumartarai-Dunda (1600 acres), Telibandha-Shankar Nagar-Labhandi (1100 acres), Daldal Seoni-Mowa-Saddu (1200 acres) and Pisda-Sakri-Kachna (1865 acres).
