Chhattisgarh seeks investments in IT

On a mission to woo investment in the information technology (IT) and biotech (BT) sectors, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister DR Raman Singh today met his Karnataka counterpart Dharam Singh and discussed development of both fields in his state.

Speaking to reporters after the breakfast meeting attended also by the state officials, Singh said he came on a visit to Bangalore to acquaint himself with the progress in IT and BT sectors in Karnataka and to invite companies to invest in Chhattisgarh, which was a new state.

"I am happy with the outcome of my visit," Singh who yesterday met Infosys Chief NR Narayana Murthy, Wipro Chairman Azim Premji and biopharma major Biocon Chairman Kiran Majumdar Shaw, said.

He said Chhattisgarh was keen on developing the IT and BT sectors learning from the experience of Karnataka, which is the leading state in the country in both fields.

A Chhattisgarh government official said Narayana Murthy had assured the delegation from his state he would consider the feasibility of setting up a centre in Chhattisgarh.

Singh also addressed a meeting, organised by the Confederation Of Indian Industry last night, where he talked about the advantages his state offered and its position in terms of power, steel, aluminium and cement. He said it now wanted to diversify into the IT and BT spheres also.

He also told IT companies in Bangalore to invest in Chhattisgarh and assured his government would provide the infrastructural facilities needed.
