The renovation of two National Highways in Chhattisgarh will make road to solve the Naxal problem in the state.
At a high level meeting held here on Tuesday afternoon to discuss about the strategy to combat the red army, the issue of renovating two National Highways (NHs) laying in shabby shape was discussed in length. The two NH connecting Jagdalpur—the divisional headquarters of Bastar-- with Konta and Bhopalpatnam passes through the Naxal heartland.
“I could not understand why the two NHs had not been renovated and I would take up the issue with the surface transport ministry,” Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, who chaired the meeting, said. The work for renovating and upgrading the two NH would be taken up soon, he added.
The two NHs are also considered to be the life line of Bastar. Once it was renovated, it would facilitate smooth movement of security forces in the region that had been dotted with landmines. The rebels have been taking advantage of the poor shape of roads in planting landmines and targeting the security personnel.
