China’s two largest state-owned train makers that manufacture the longest high-speed rail system in the world have submitted bids in the first ever global tender by the Indian Railways to manufacture rakes for Kolkata Metro.
According to Railway officials, five companies have submitted bids to produce broad-gauge air-conditioned rakes for Kolkata Metro. These include two Chinese companies — China South Railway (CSR) Locomotive and Dalian Locomotive (a subsidiary of China North Railway Corporation), CAF India (Indian arm of global major Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles of Spain), and two Indian players – BEML and Titagarh Wagons.
