Harpal Singh, the newly elected Chairman of CII (Northern Region) announced a joint core group for Ludhiana with participation of local industry, senior officials from administration and prominent social members to deliberate and ensure the plans formulated are implemented with proper timelines and monitoring mechanisms in place.
The key issues precluding the growth on which the core group will focus included revival of Phase 8 focal point, traffic congestion at key intersections of the city, advocate towards building a mechanism to help sustain the ecology of Buddha Nullah and autos in Ludhiana to move to CNG.
Singh said CII was committed to enhance the competitiveness in view of Ludhiana having a very strong industrial and manufacturing base and a major contributor to the GDP of the Punjab as well as India. To translate this vision into an actionable agenda CII chairman sought the help of industry members and government to ensure revival and growth of Ludhiana.
Taking up the concern of Infrastructure , Harpal Singh suggested a model to address the issue underlined operations and maintenance of infrastructure in Ludhiana through PPP (on annuity and performance) linked schemes in a phased manner specially for up-gradation of roads, street lighting, water supply and sanitation, solid waste management, traffic management, mass transportation management.
