The Confederation of Indian Industry-Southern Region would focus on setting in place modalities for revival of the economy and address issues of infrastructure and corporate governance in 2009-10, it was announced here today.

CII-SR has chosen the theme — South India@75: Economy, Infrastructure and Governance (EIG)—for the present financial year, its Chairman C R Swaminathan told a press conference. He said CII-SR would give more thrust to the development of MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises), adding, it has initiated specific intervention programmes for their overall devlelopment.

“Though MSMEs are known for their vibrancy, they are most vulnerable during times of economic slowdown,” he said. Stressing that it is imperative for MSMEs to re-look at the strategies to beat the slow-down, he said towards this end, CII-SR has chalked out a comprehensive plan to build their competitiveness through specific interventions in the areas of financial management, business development, cluster programmes, market linkage initiatives and policy work.

CII would propose launching of five key infrastructure projects in each of the four southern states, Swaminathan said, adding, CII would bring out a new code on corporate governance at the national level and would encourage members in the south to adopt the new code.
