To mitigate the power shortage problem in Nashik city, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is planning to form a public-private partnership to set up a captive power plants here on the lines of the project in Pune. |
Speaking to Business Standard, Rahul Kirloskar, vice-chairman, Maharashtra council of CII, said, "Power is an essential input for an industrial development. Today, Maharashtra is still facing power shortage and the state government has promised to find a solution to the problem in the next 3 to 5 years. Neither the Centre nor the neighbouring states have surplus power to share. Considering these factors, CII has decided to form a public-private partnerships in major cities of the state to mitigate the power shortage. Such a pilot project has been successfully implemented in Pune, which is now completely free from power cuts." |
|
"Now, CII is planning to implement a similar project in Nashik. We have called a meeting of some industrialists from Nashik to give them a presentation on the Pune pilot project. We will soon conduct a survey in Nashik to know the city's current power scenario and the kind of project suitable for it," Kirloskar said. |

The pilot captive power project in Pune has successfully bridged the demand-supply gap of 100 Mw per day. |
|
Before the project was set up by 30 companies in PPP, the city used to get 550 Mw daily as against its requirement of 650 Mw, leaving a shortage of 100 Mw. Thus, Pune today is completely free from power shortage, he added. |
