The minister, while assuring the CII delegation led by its Chandigarh Chairman Sameer Goel, mentioned that he would make his best efforts to take the growth agenda for Chandigarh forward.
"I have been pursuing the issues that concern growth and development of Chandigarh and would continue to do so," Bansal told the delegation members here, according to a CII release.
Bansal told the delegation members that he was aware of the issues that industry is facing for many years and will continue to take up the matter with the concerned.
Goel pointed out that industrial growth in Chandigarh has lagged behind.
"While large industry cannot come up in Chandigarh due to scarcity of land, the existing industry needs to be upgraded technologically and financially to compete in the shrinking global village. Services sector is the major contributor to the GDP, about 78 per cent, of Chandigarh and has further potential to grow," he said.
Efforts should be made to encourage development of this sector along with the small manufacturing units, which could be made possible through changes in the land use and allowing change of trade in the industrial areas, Goel added.
