CII set to launch second phase of environment project

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is in the process of launching the second phase of its environment management project with the involvement of its regional offices.

As part of this initiative, CII (eastern region )would be organising an awareness programme for environment management in Kolkata on September 30.

As a joint undertaking of CII and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the environmental management project phase 2 would build on the environmental management systems (EMS) services provided in the first phase.

The programme would be on social accountability and SA 8000. Stewart Forbes, Canadian advisor, CII-CIDA project said that the aim of the project was to develop information node so that companies could access information.

The seminar in Kolkata would showcase success stories of companies in India and would also have participants from certifying agencies.

The CII-CIDA environmental management project would increase the capacity of CII-EMD to assist industries integrate sound environmental and social practices in their business plans.

In addition, it would increase industry's interface with stakeholders for the development and implementation of sustainable development policies.
