As per the plan, CII targets to upgrade five ITIs through public-private-partnership mode (PPP) and to develop two others into centres of excellence.

Private partners for upgrading ITI Tezpur, ITI Tinsukia (women), ITI Tinsukia, ITI Nalbari, and ITI Dhemaji through PPP mode have already been identified. In addition, ITI Jorhat would be developed into centre of excellence by CII in association with Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL). ITI Guwahati would be developed into centre of excellence by CII.

"We have identified education and skill development as the thrust area in the current year," said B K Das, who today took over the rein as chairman of CII's Assam State Council from the founder chairman Abhijit Barooahat the annual general meeting (AGM).

He added that making people more efficient and enterprising, through imparting various vocational skills, will be the key focus of CII in the current year. Das admitted that the Assam has a deficit of skilled manpower, affecting industrial growth. Apart from upgrading the ITIs, CII would also try to rope in private investment into these institutes.
