CIMA to work through British Council

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) India Liaison office has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with British Council recently to develop an operational approach to the delivery of initiatives and projects undertaken by CIMA and British Council.

"CIMA has 760 students all over India. It has the largest student-base in Mumbai with 200 students, about 100 in Delhi and 65 in Bangalore," Swati Ghangurde, chief representative, CIMA India Liaison Office, told Business Standard.

CIMA offers courses in business in 3 levels "" Certificate in Business Accounting, CIMA Advanced Diploma, and the final level CIMA Professional Qualification. Course fees for all three levels put together would be close to 1004 pounds.

"Our students are mainly professionals or people from non-financial educational background who would want to learn business. Although we do not have tuition partners right now, we offer online counselling which is usually sufficient for our students," Ghangurde informed.

"We do not offer placements to our students directly. But we interact with companies and our certificates are globally recognised. For example, we tied-up with Genpact India in July this year. In 10 days, 16 Genpact employees from all over India, enrolled for our courses. Genpact has also adviced its employees all over the world to opt for our courses," said Michelle Potts, head of international business development, CIMA.

CIMA also tied up with Dun & Bradstreet in April this year to offer Certificate in Business Accounting.

"Our student-base in India increased by 186 in 2006 from 2005," Potts added.
