West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said her government would defer its decision on revival of the State Legislative Council in wake of the Opposition parties' objections on the issue.
Banerjee told the State Assembly that the matter would be taken up after a detailed discussion with the Opposition as her government had "total respect on their opinion".
Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee said a report on the Council's revival had been submitted to the House.
Leader of the Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra thanked Banerjee for her move to defer the revival.
The Mamata Banerjee government has taken a move to revive the Legislative Council that was abolished by an Act in 1969.
