In the wake of yesterday’s bomb blasts here, state chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said the government was prepared to tackle any eventuality and step up efforts in this regard.
He said security cameras around the blast sites had crucial information and these were being examined.
He criticised opposition parties’ aim of gaining political mileage by slogan shouting at the blast sites. “This is a time to show a united face on the fight against terrorism,” he said.
Chavan visited the blast sites, met Union home minister P Chidambaram and addressed a joint press conference. He then chaired a cabinet meeting on law and order in this city and elsewhere.
He said he wished to thank the people of Mumbai for their “resolute determination” on fighting such terror. “Mumbaikars cooperated with the administration yesterday and we are thankful to them. I have appealed to the people of Mumbai to maintain peace and calm,” he noted.
Dissatisfied with the flow of political leaders at various hospitals to see the injured, Chavan said this put further pressure on the police and hospital administration. “I sincerely feel there is need for a code of conduct at the national level for dealing with this matter,” he added.
