Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy sought the cooperation of the members of the state Legislative Assembly for completing 'Jalayagnam " aimed at providing irrigation to every acre of land in the state'.

"Our Jalayagnam should be completed without any hurdles. And your cooperation is essential for this mighty exercise," he said in an open letter to the legislators on Sunday.

Interestingly, the chief minister chose to write an open letter to the legislators when the state Legislative Assembly is currently in session.

"We belong to different political parties, having different ideologies. We may differ with one another on our policies. It is a very common phenomenon in a democracy. But these differences should not become obstacles to the development. It is unfortunate that certain sections are trying to create hurdles in our efforts to complete the irrigation projects for which the entire farming community is eagerly waiting," the letter stated.
