The central government has received a loan of $180 million (about Rs 900 crore) and a grant of $45.4 million (about Rs 225 crore) from the Global Environment Facility for its proposed pilot project to renovate and modernise coal-fired power plants.
The project will be taken up in West Bengal, Maharashtra and Haryana.
As part of the first phase of the project, the government has sought the World Bank’s assistance to pilot the renovation and modernisation of four coal-fired units with a combined capacity of 640 Mw.
