The president of Samata Party, George Fernandes yesterday said parties which believed in real politics that assured peoples participation, could come together to form a coalition government.

Addressing the state level conference of his party, Fernandes reiterated that no single party would be able to form the government at the Centre and the only alternative would be a coalition government. Referrring to the BJP-BSP alliance in Uttar Pradesh, he maintained that it was not a new phenomenon to have chief ministers alternatively and pointed out that the same procedure was followed in Switzerland as well. Fernandes alleged that it was only when the two parties came together to form the government and esatblish democracy in Uttar Pradesh that the move was being branded as opportunistic.

He said his party had electoral adjustment with the BJP for the recent Lok Sabha elections in Bihar only to assure better government in that state but it has not gone for any alliance with BJP.

He said Samata Party wanted to cleanse the present politics, which now only consisted in electoral adjustments and seat adjustments. Moreover, Samata Party believed in peoples participation in every day life and assured them of justice in every walk of life, he added.
