The collections of commercial taxes in Orissa increased marginally by 3.17 percent by the end of September this year, compared to the corresponding period of the last year. The first six months collection amounts to only 37.24 percent of the total target for the year.

The total collections are Rs 2487.94 crore compared to Rs 2411.41 crore in the last fiscal. The negative growth in the collection of Central Sales Tax (CST) and entry tax is attributed to the slow growth in the commercial tax collections.

The collection of value added tax (VAT) during the first six months of the current fiscal increased by 9.45 percent to Rs 1952.42 crore compared to corresponding figure of Rs 1783.82 crore last year.
