Tamil Nadu registered a 24.23 per cent growth in tax revenue collection up to November 2012 at Rs 31,127.01 crore, as compared with Rs 25,055.89 crore collected during the same period last year, according to minister for commercial taxes and registration, BV Ramanaa.
The collection made by all the five divisions in Chennai — large tax payers unit, north, central, south and east — stood at Rs 19,592 crore during the period up to November 2011. This was Rs 24,176 crore during the current period up to November, an increase of 24 per cent.
The divisions in Chennai contribute more than 75 per cent of the commercial taxes revenue. The minister urged the officers to strive hard and achieve the annual target taking note that the financial year was drawing to a close.
The government has ordered to fill up 117 posts of deputy commercial tax officers and 100 posts of assistants for the department. For Chennai divisions, 27 posts of deputy commercial tax officer, 35 posts of assistants, 27 of junior assistants, and 12 post of steno-typist have been ordered to be filled up.
