The Union Human Resource Development Ministry today postponed the submission of an action plan of the high-level committee formed to go into the recommendations of the Sachar Committee.

The ministry has also decided to refer the issue of reservations for Dalit Muslims to the Union home ministry.

"There was a mixed response to the issue within the committee and the same was evident when we held talks with the Muslim MPs. So we have decided to refer the matter to the Ministry of Home Affairs," M A A Fatmi, Minister of State for Human Resource Development and chairman of the high-level committee, told Business Standard.

The MoS had earlier announced that he would submit the report on January 10, but now it has been postponed to the original scheduled date of January 31.

"Our concern was to put our proposals before the Planning Commission before it starts working on the Five Year Plan. We have informed the commission about the kind of proposals that the committee would come out in the plan for Muslims. So we are not in a hurry now and would only submit the report on January 31," Fatmi said.

The financial estimates and final decisions on some important proposals are also pending, which is another reason why the report has been delayed.
