Container Corporation of India (Concor) will join hands with Central Warehousing Corporation and Pipavava Rail Corporation Ltd to provide complete logistics service to its customers. |
The announcement comes just after Railway Minister Lalu Prasad unveiled the container policy for private companies, which will create competition for Concor. So far, transporting containers by rail has been Concor's monopoly. |
Concor today signed a memorandum of understanding with both the companies to pool their resources to provide door to door movement of cargo by all modes of transport including rail, a Concor release said today. |
'The synergies between the three organisations will ensure that the total logistics costs are minimised for shippers who will ultimately benefit by the way of cheaper and reliable transportation and logistics services,' the company said in a statement. |
Central Warehousing Corporation is the public sector unit having the largest network of warehouses in the country. Pipavava Rail Corporation is the joint venture between Pipavava port and the railways operating rail section between the port and Sundernagar. |
Meanwhile Railway Minister Lalu Prasad ruled out disinvestment of government stake in Concor. |
'There is no such proposal with the ministry at present,' Prasad said at a press conference today. The government holds 63 per cent equity in Concor. |
