The trends showed that Congress and its allies are ahead in all the three regions of the state - Travancore, Kochi and Malabar. In 2004, the UDF got only one seat and the Congress drew blank.
Ahamed established a comfortable lead of 13,000 votes over T K Hamza, who is a sitting MP from the area. In the nearby Wayanad seat, KPCC vice-president M I Shanawas is leading by over 11,165 votes over CPI's M Rahamathulla. NCP state president K Muraleedharan is in third position in Wayanad.
Sitting Congress MLA K Sudhakaran has also established a comfortable lead of 7972 votes over former SFI president K K Ragesh of CPI-M in Kannur. The CPI (M) candidates who are forging ahead are the party's Deputy leader in the Lok Sabha P Karunakaran and sitting MP P Sathidevi in Varakara.
