Riding an anti-incumbency wave, Congress today stormed back to power in the north-eastern hilly state of Mizoram winning a simple majority in the 40-member House.
The Congress party bagged 32 seats while UDA won four seats.
The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) won only three seats.

Riding an anti-incumbency wave, Congress today stormed back to power in the north-eastern hilly state of Mizoram securing a simple majority in the 40-member House.
The party has bagged 21 seats so far with two times former chief minister Lalthanhawla winning from both Serchhip and South Tuipui seats.

Other prominent party winners are PCC Senior Vice President R Lalzirliana from the Tawi seat, Aizawl district Congress Committee President Lalrinliana Sailo from Tuichang seat, former ministers P C Zoramsangliana from Kolasib seat and Nirupam Chakma from the Tuichawng.
Ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) cut a sorry figure with Chief Minister Zoramthanga biting the dust in his home Champahi North constituency where he lost to a first timer and Congress candidate T T Zothansanga.
The party scored its first victory winning the lone East Tuipui seat with Urban Development minister B Lalthlengliana defeating his nearest Congress rival Thangchuanga by 454 votes.
MNF had 21 legislators in the 40-member House.
The UDA also opened it account winning the Hrangturzo seat where its nominee Lalthansanga defeated his Congress opponent Ronald Sapa Tlau by 452 votes.

The Congress, riding an anti-incumbency wave, is set to storm to power in Mizoram winning 12 seats and leading in many in the 40-member assembly.
Three-time chief minister and state PCC chief Lal Thanhawla triumphed in both South Tuipui and Serchhip seats defeating his opponents J Lalchhuana and C Lalramzauva, both of the UDA, respectively.
The Congress which had nine seats in the outgoing assembly was also leading in some party strongholds and Kolasib seat which is held by the ruling MNF.
The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) suffered a jolt when two-time chief minister and party President Zoramthanga was humbled by Congress opponent T T Zothansanga, a first timer, in the prestigious Champhai North seat.
He is also contesting from Champhai South constituency, the result of which was yet to be declared.
The victory of the Congress sparked off celebrations in the Congress Bhavan here with supporters setting off crackers and beating drums .
Another major player in the polls, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) also suffered defeat with its deputy chief ministerial candidate Lalduhoma losing to his Congress opponent and a first timer R L Pianmawia.
Among the other prominent losers were assembly Speaker Lalchamliana and his deputy C Lalrinsanga who were both defeated by the Congress nominees.

Riding on anti-incumbency wave, Congress in Mizoram was surging ahead of the ruling MNF.
In the results declared so far, the Congress has won seven seats in the 40-member state assembly.
Former chief minister and state Congress chief Lal Thanhawla leads the list of the winners by bagging the South Tuipui seat in Lunglei district and Serchhip seat in Serchhip district, his home turf.
Other winners include Lalrinmawia in Hachhek seat in Mamit district, R Lalzirliana in Tawi seat, R L Pianmawia in Tuivawl both Aizawl district and P C Lalthanliana in Lunglei North. The Congress is also leading with a small margin in the prestigious Aizawl North-II seat, Tuirial and Kolasib seats.
