The opposition Bhartiya Janata party (BJP) today dismissed a series of resignation by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) leaders owning moral responsibility for the terrorist strike in Mumbai last week which killed 183 and left nearly 400 persons injured.

Party spokes person Ravishankar Prasad today said the Congress was merely trying to divert the public attention from the basic issue of "systematic changes, which are required for dealing with the threat from terrorists."

He said that "instead of working on making basic changes in the system, the UPA is picking up vulnerable faces to stave off the pressure from its failures to deal with the threat to national security from the terrorists."

BJP leaders said Home minister Shivraj Patil Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and his deputy R R Patil were made scapegoats for the government's abject failure to control the terrorists’ strikes in the country.
