Senior congress leaders demanded, here on Thursday, resignation of Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and a CBI inquiry into the charges against him.

Former minister H Viswanath said following a series of charges against Kumaraswamy, his government had lost credibility.

The coalition government had no moral right to stay in power.

The chief minister was failing to reply to the charges levelled against him, including the one levelled by Congress leader DK Shivakumar, who had shown the records of purchase of a prime property by Deve Gowda's family members.

Former prime minister HD Deve Gowda had publicly said in 2004 that he was going to the elections without any money in his pocket.

He had also stated that he did not know how many zeroes a crore had.

How did they get Rs 36 crore within a few months? Viswamath asked.
