The Congress will fight the next assembly elections on the 'stability plank' since people of the state had lost interest in coalition governments.

Former chief minister S M Krishna, who assumed office as the chairman of the election management and coordination committee of the party on Friday said: "The people of the state have seen the performance of two coalition governments. We do not expect the voters to deliver a fractured verdict this time too. I appeal to the voters to elect a single party government."

He said voters were convinced about electing a single party government. "The Congress will work towards realising this goal. A single party government can ensure sustainable development of the state. We have shown that four years ago," he pointed out.

When asked why the Congress had joined hands with the JD(S) in 2004, he said: "The scenario was different then. We did not want to force another election on people. We experimented with coalition. However, things are different now. We are keen on the Congress securing an absolute majority," Krishna added.

Former deputy chief minister Siddaramaiah, who quit JD(S) to join Congress, took charge as the party's campaign committee chairman.
