Congress' Vipin Kumar wins Delhi bypolls

Vipin Kumar of Congress today defeated the BJP candidate by over 23,000 votes in the by-elections to Rohtas Nagar Assembly seat, which fell vacant after his father and MLA Ram Babu Sharma passed away.  

Kumar overcame the challenge posed by BJP's Divya Jaiswal, former Delhi Deputy Mayor.  

The Congress candidate secured 57,840 votes while the Jaiswal poled 34,293 votes. BSP's candidate polled 7,190.  

The by-elections to the seat was necessiated after Sharma, a four-time MLA and former DPCC president, passed away on January 28. The 53-year-old leader was suffering from oral cancer.
