Convicted by a Delhi court in a corruption case, former Union minister Sukhram today blamed some Congressmen of “conspiring” against him to get him framed by the Central Bureau of investigation (CBI) with a motive to “finish” him politically.
“Disturbed by my growing popularity in the wake of the telecom revolution brought by me in Himachal Pradesh and in the entire country as communications minister in the PV Narsimha Rao government, some of my partymen conspired against me and worked overtime to get me framed by the CBI,” Sukhram told PTI over phone from Delhi.
He, however, refused to identify his detractors. “People of Himachal Pradesh know who these people are so I need not spell their names,” said the leader, from whose houses the CBI had seized Rs 3.61 crore in cash 13 years ago.
The 82-year-old leader, who had in his 45 years of political career won three Lok Sabha polls from Mandi and served as MLA seven times from his native Mandi Sadar seat, said he had no grudge against the Congress party.
