Consumerfed to start professional institutes

The Kerala State Cooperatives Consumers’ Federation (Consumerfed), the apex body of the consumer cooperatives in the state, is set to to enter the professional education sector by launching three institutes from the next academic year.

Towards this, it would soon set up Triveni Institute of Retail Management at Cheruthoni in Idukki district. The institute will provide a six-month certificate course and a diploma course of one year with 60 students each, said Joy Thomas, president, Consumerfed.

Students passing out from it can be assured jobs of supervisors and floor managers at Consumerfed’s Triveni retail outlets.

The Triveni Institute of Pharmacy will come up at Kechery in Thrissur district. “To begin with, each batch will have 60 students doing D Pharm. We will subsequently start a four-year B Pharm course,” he said. The state had earmarked Rs 50 lakh for the institute. It will give placement to all the pass-outs.

On the other hand, Triveni Institute of Food Processing, which will emphasise on adding value to commodities like coconut, mango and jackfruit, is being planned at Wadakkanchery in Thrissur district.
