Corridor project: Villages reluctant to sell land

The farmers of the villages whose lands are to be acquired for the execution of corridor project are angry on learning of move of acquisition of their lands.

About 31 villages of Karjan Padra and Vadodara district and 28 villages of neighbouring Bharuch district are covered under this project.

The farmers of these villages which lie on the route of corridor route, are not ready for giving their land to Railway Ministry and they suggested the resigning in the route of the frieght corridor project which can spare their valuable land from the acquisition.

Vallabhbhai Patel, a farmer, said the compensation package offered to them in lieu of their land was very less and not acceptable to them.

“Railways wants tot take away their land at throw away prices,” he said.

After hearing the representations made by these farmers here a week ago, the director of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation(JBIC) Susec Mirato said, they were trying to estimate the sociological impact of the project.

Mirato said he would submit a report to the railway authorities and inform them about the demands raised by the farmers whose lands are to be acquired.
