The chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court in Dhenkanal has slapped a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on two senior executives of Bhushan Steel that runs a steel plant at Meramandali in the district. The fine has been imposed on the company officials- Rahul Sengupta and Satish Tyagi.

The CJM court announced its verdict today on five out of 82 cases lodged against Bhushan Steel pertaining to the general violations under the Factories Act, 1948 and Odisha Factories Rule, 1950. The violations were observed during the time of regular factory inspections, said Bibhu Prasad, assistant director, Factories and Boilers, Dhenkanal.

The company's steel plant at Meramandali has been prone to accidents in the past.
