The CPI(M) today demanded an all-party meeting to reach a consensus on how frequent disruptions of proceedings in Parliament should be stopped so that issues concerning people could be discussed. |
Addressing a press briefing today, CPI(M) MP and Politburo member Sitaram Yechury said his party wanted to raise many important issues in the House including Justice Sachar panel report, special economic zones, agrarian crisis, etc but due to frequent disruptions, these could not be raised. |
Replying to a query, the senior CPI(M) leader said originally, Parliament was supposed to meet for six months in a year, although it was not a written law. |
"This norm (meeting for six months) must be maintained," he said. Yechury, however, added that without a political consensus on how to run Parliament, even increasing the number of days would not solve the problem. |
"The number of days could be increased but what if there are more disruptions?' |
In the eight sessions preceding this Winter session during the 14th Lok Sabha, over 195 hours were lost due to adjournments following interruptions. Even in the current session, the Opposition BJP stalled the proceedings on many occasions over different issues. |
