CR Rao statistics institute gets new premises

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and the Union minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation MS Gill today inaugurated the Ramanujan block on a five-acre plot in the University of Hyderabad campus at Gachibowli here. The building will house the newly-established CR Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science (AIMSCS).

The CR Rao Institute, set up with a Rs 15-crore grant from the Prime Minister's Office and the Planning Commission and land given by UoH, aims to be a centre of excellence in the three subjects in its name as well as in the advanced applied areas of cryptography, cognitive analysis, genetics, among others.

According to SB Rao, director, CR Rao AIMSCS, it has already entered into memoranda for collaboration with IIT Bombay, IIIT Hyderabad, Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata, and won a research grant from the Department of Science & Technology, and another Rs 12.5-crore project in cryptography from the Prime Minister's Office.

UoH vice chancellor Seyed E Hasnain said the institutions like these would help the university get recognition, and make the Gachibowli area the knowledge hub for this part of the world.
