The Crime Branch police will probe into the circumstances leading to the sinking of the Mongolian vessel Black Rose.
A five-member special investigation team led by Santosh Kumar Pattnaik, deputy superintendent of police (crime branch) has been constituted to conduct the probe. Black Rose, a vessel registered in Mongolia and owned by a Singapore-based firm had sunk on September 9 this year in the Bay of Bengal, about five km off the coast of Paradip.
The case of this vessel which was investigated by the Marine police at Paradip has been handed over to the Crime branch following the directive of Manmohan Praharaj, the Director General of Police.
Praharaj had visited Paradip recently and interacted with the police officers as well as officials of the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) to ascertain the cause of sinking of Black Rose.
Later, he directed the Crime branch to probe into the case of the vessel. A fresh case has been registered on Thursday at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Cuttack. The case has been registered against the accused under Sections 419,467 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code.
