Crude oil imports fell 13% to 7.6 million tonne in June 2005 from 8.785 million tonne in June 2004 as product demand was almost flat in the period under review.According to the latest data released by the petroleum ministry today, oil product consumption was almost flat at 9.231 million tonne on account of moderate growth in diesel demand due to the impact of floods on agriculture.Petroleum products' imports more than doubled to 8,56,400 tonne in June due to the surge in petrol and diesel imports for meeting clean fuel norms.Exports of petroleum products rose 42.7% to 1.532 million tonne on the back of higher naphtha exports.Crude oil imports in the April-June quarter increased 8.5% to 26.97 million tonne as against 24.866 million tonne imported in the same period last fiscal.Oil product consumption fell over 2% to 27.638 million tonne in Q1FY06 from 28.222 million tonne in Q1FY05, the release added.Diesel consumption was up 2.1% to 3.373 million tonne in June, but declined 1.3% to 10.252 million in Q1FY06.
