The Central Vigilance Commission is inquiring about 39 complaints related to alleged misappropriation of funds in different Commonwealth Games- related projects.
"39 complaints regarding alleged irregularities in CWG works have been received by the Commission," Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanasamy told Rajya Sabha today.
The Commission has forwarded 12 cases to the concerned departments for taking appropriate action. In the remaining 25 cases, the enquiries by the Commission are at various stages, the minister said in a written reply.
"In one of these cases, the Commission has already given its recommendation for initiation of major penalty proceedings. In another case the CBI has registered an FIR," he said.
A high-level committee under the chairmanship of V K Shunglu, former Comptroller and Auditor General of India, has been constituted on October 25, 2010 to look into issues relating to organising and conduct of the Games.
"These agencies such as CAG, Enforcement Directorate, Income Tax Department, CVC and the Central Bureau of Investigation are making enquiries or investigations within their respective jurisdiction and as per their mandate," Narayanasamy added.
